SL: How did we get so lucky as to be able to see you naked all the time? How did a woman as beautiful as you get into the business?

DJ: I started as a cam-model. I was a mainstream model for a while; did mainstream television before that. I have a degree in sports medicine, so I did a lot of work as a personal trainer for a while. I answered an ad for a cam-model not knowing exactly what that was. I thought it was just involving swimsuits and lingerie. That’s what they told me in the ad. When I went I found out it was entertaining men online by masturbating, it took me by surprise. But I did it, and I kind of enjoyed it. I did that for a couple of years and decided to get my own site in 2005. After that, I started to get into doing actual movies in 2007.

SL: Was it difficult to go from webcam stuff to starring in scenes?

DJ: Surprisingly, no. With the webcam stuff, it wasn’t much different from my regular life: I mean, I masturbate anyway. I went from regular modeling to webcam modeling to adult modeling; which is pretty much softcore porn. I’m definitely not shy! Even when I did runway modeling, I was used to the changing rooms where everybody sees you naked. It was never a problem for me.

SL: It seems like it didn’t take very long for you to go from fairly mainstream, Naughty America-type porn to the more extreme, hardcore stuff, like Cumbang.

DJ: I did Naughty America first, before Cumbang. I was doing mostly “reality” scenes and MILFHunter and stuff like that because I live in Florida, so I started out with the Florida companies. It wasn’t until I went out to L.A. that I did the Cumbang and other stuff. It didn’t make a difference to me. I didn’t even think Cumbang was that hardcore because, even though it was a gangbang, it was only sucking guys’ cocks. That was actually a lot easier: it was only, maybe, a 35 minute job. Everything else takes like 5 hours to film.

SL: Do you ever find yourself boxed in as a Black woman in the adult industry?

DJ: I’m kind of lucky: I get to pick and choose what I do. I have gotten some flack from people about [the racial overtones of doing a scene like] Cumbang, but I have to remind people that, just like in any mainstream movie, it’s just acting. I’ve done MILF movies and I have no children. People seem to think that this is real life or something. It’s not real life: it’s a movie. You have to understand that. I’m not racist against anybody: my own race or any other race. That’s just the script, and I’m going to have fun with the script and try to make it realistic, but it’s not like I’m going to go out in my everyday life and start saying the same words I used in that scene and acting that way. I see porn as the same as any mainstream movie. The only difference is that we go all the way and actually have the sex that mainstream movies only hint at. What I mean is that it’s all just fantasy and not real life. These are just roles; just roles that we are playing. I do a lot of races in my movies, and I like that, because I never want to be put into a box.

SL: What is your life like off the set? What are you into?

DJ: I like movies, I like to travel, I like to spend time with family and go out dancing. I’m a big football fan. I like working out. I’m really spontaneous: I don’t ever say “OK, I want to go do this or that.” I just kind of let things happen.

SL: What do you have coming up that your fans can look forward to?

DJ: A lot. You can find me in “The Companion” which is out now. It’s a Josh Stone Productions feature. What was nice about that was that I finally got to play someone else besides myself. I play a receptionist named Monica. The storyline is really cool in that one. I’m also in “House Hunters 4,” which is from Girlfriend Films. I did a scene, which was great, with Alexis Monroe. The whole crew was made up of women, which was kind of cool. It was a different experience. I’ve done girl/girl before, but it’s usually with a guy directing or a guy with the camera… a whole crew of guys. I really enjoyed working for Girlfriend. They like the more sensual side, so the scenes are more worked-out; they are a little softer and more passionate. Which was a lot different than what I am used to! I’ll also be making appearances at the Exxxotica New Jersey Expo in Edison, New Jersey November 5th-7th, The Everything to Do with Sex Show in Toronto, Canada November 19th-21^st. I’ll also be at the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada January 6th-9th 2011. Fans can check me out, I will be signing pictures and taking pictures and all that good stuff.
