Music Video Premier: THE LAST STAND ‘Opportunities Lost and Found’
February 19, 2012
By A. Starr | Smutlife
Last year we came across a track on StereoKiller.com that The Last Stand (ex-Inhuman & ex-Shutdown) had just posted for their soon-to-be released (at the time) EP, ‘Opportunities Lost and Found.’ The self-titled track caught our attention and almost instantly had us throwing a line to Mike Scondotto about shooting a music video for them. Soon after, Mike and the guys graciously granted us the opportunity to put something together.

After our initial performance shoot which took place at the Lucky 13 Saloon in Brooklyn, along with some follow up live performance coverage shot across the tri-state area, we were finally able to splice something together for the guys and help spread the word.
Even though The Last Stand is still a relatively new band that has been grinding away doing plenty of shows in the area, they’ve already played with the likes of Trapped Under Ice, Wisdom In Chains, Maximum Penalty, Youth of Today and Agnostic Front. They are currently working on a full-length release that should be out this summer on American Enemy Records. We wouldn’t waste our time and energy on an outfit that isn’t deserving of it. The Last Stand is comprised of veteran NYHC heads that still do what they do outta pure passion and love for the scene. Support these guys and their music… Shit is real!!!

DJ PREMIER’s TOP 25 HIP HOP ALBUMS OF 2011
January 8, 2012
Photos & Words by A. Starr | SMUTLIFE
Friday night we had the privilege of attending DJ Premier’s “Live From Headqcourterz” show on HipHopNation at the Sirius/XM stronghold as he revealed his annual Top 25 Hip Hop Albums of 2011. As usual, his list is always beyond impressive and equally thorough. In attendance was the usual crew of uncaged mad men that seem to coincide at a heightened level of comedic bliss – Panchi (NYGz), the Biggest G – Gordon, Keebz on the 60! (and the 20), and of course Mr. Ron Mills who we had the pleasure of meeting for the first time.
Below are some images from the festivities. Great show P!!! And much love for the SMUTLIFE plug fellas!!! Support REAL HIP HOP being done properly!!!

Lupe Fiasco Marches In Wall Street Protest, States View On New World Order
September 22, 2011
The unabashed Chicagoan appeals for truth and says the New World Order is not as “nefarious” as we make them out to be.
This past weekend, several thousand American demonstrators gathered around New York City’s Financial District to protest what they feel is Wall Street’s stronghold on U.S. government and society. Although the protest, called “Occupy Wall Street,” has overtly demanded higher taxes for corporations and criticizes Capitalism, there is also an underlying sentiment of a call for truth.
Lupe Fiasco attended the wide scale protest demanding the truth, specifically behind the events of 9/11 and subsequent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“Millions of people have died behind that,” Lupe told media outlet We Are Change. “For the sake of what? For the price of what? What really happened to cause millions and millions of people to die? If it was just a terrorist attack, then so be it. Let that be known. Let that be out and vetted so the public can see it. And I think [the U.S.] would get more support. I think you would get more support from Muslim countries if it was just a more open and honest kind of thing instead of this kind of cloudy, mysterious, behind-the-scenes kind of operation.”

If you dont know by now, Necro is working on a collaboration album with the legendary, greatest of all time, Kool G Rap. They have been working on it for the last 3 months and its coming along real rugged. Review by Nick Shore | Smutlife
More New York bands you say? Well, Brooklyn’s The Last Stand have officially arrived on the scene, playing a refreshingly traditional, no-frills brand of straight up hardcore. Expire “Suffer the Cycle” | REVIEW
April 15, 2011
Review by Nick Shore | Smutlife
Almost one year since their debut EP, Grim Rhythm ripped up turntables from coast to coast, the Midwest’s Expire are back with another effort chock full of gritty riffs and youthful angst. Recently released on the always busy Six Feet Under Records, Suffer the Cycle features four brand new tracks of straight up hardcore fury. Since grabbing hold of their local scene in 2009 with a furiously aggressive demo, Expire have grown considerably, taking their largest steps with this latest musical onslaught.
Top 10 Heaviest Albums of the past decade
April 13, 2011
When anyone puts together a list of any sort (especially when it’s stamped ‘Top 10 of the Decade’) you can pretty much consider yourself fair game for the flurry of scrutiny, controversy and debate regarding the level of knowledge (or taste for that matter) that you bring to the table on the selected subject matter. However, since we ARE considered professors of musical composition & education at the highest of levels you should take this ‘Top 10 Heaviest Albums of the Past Decade‘ list as superior word. DO NOT rely on the antiquated robotic programing directors at Sirius/XM or the so-called ‘alternative underground’ sounds streaming from the local college radio stations. They will only lead you astray. Put your trust in us as we provide to you nothing short of the truth. Read more
Exclusive RED EYED DEVIL “Corrupt Her” video
April 12, 2011

SMUTLIFE and ANGRY WHITE BOY teamed up back in March to put together a promo piece with one of NYHC’s newest outfits, RED EYED DEVIL. To many, the band might be unknown as a unit but it’s counterparts are hardly new to the hardcore scene. Formerly EGH (Everybody Gets Hurt), R.E.D. consists of no other than Tom Murphy (drums), Gregg Heyward (guitar), Frank Sexton (bass) and Rob Cullen who belts out the lyrical mayhem on the mic.
